Fading Dollar, Failing Economy

Published 04/22/08 Thomas Heffner - Print Article

With the current abysmal strength of the dollar, the look of horror on Washington's face is how Americans feel when they try to buy something in Europe and most other countries.

To strengthen our money and restore America to its former industrial glory days, we must curb our dependence on imports, produce more domestically and prevent the liquidation of our companies to foreign ownership.

Our government needs to take responsible steps to accomplishing these goals. We must selectively use tariffs to prevent the loss of crucial industries as well as prevent the sale of important companies to foreign interests abroad.

America needs a policy of intelligent trade that encourages the growth of domestic industries and diminishes the nation’s reliance on deficits and unnecessary imports that are wrecking the country.

guest says "We need to re-industrialize" on 12/18/08
It is not the foreigners fault that this condition exists. We created this condition ourselves. We have destroyed most of our industries that were located in the US because they created pollution. Why should we make the things that we consume as long we can get people in other countries to work to make these things for our consumption? We can pay them with freshly printed paper currencies that they can redeem by exchanging them for title to our real estate and our remaining businesses (instead of Gold). Our Stupid Legislators, Ignorant Government Employees, Bad Corporate Managers, Greedy Unions, Wall Street Master Criminals, NAFTA, EPA, and OSHA, just to name a few, have created this situation.

How can we ever re-start our industries (re-industrialize) to generate a positive balance of trade? Most of the men who knew how to operate the basic industry factories are now long dead. There are no books that completely tell how to do most of the things that we knew how to do years ago when we created the industries that won WWII and gave us our bountiful way of life.

guest says "Republicans goal is to ruin America" on 04/23/08
Republicans are both stupid and evil.

They take special delight in creating ruin and hardship for our citizens creating extreme economic pain for families, and investors as the dollar falls, jobs are deported, manufacturing is outsourced, and CEO's enjoy unlimited pay and respect.
Republicans take specail delight in killing and destroying and causing war and human misery through discretionary war and occupation.

Thanks to Bush's Strong Dollar Policy our economy is and nation are quiucly being ruined and with it the future of America is becoming extremely bleak.

Look at how the eceonomic mismanagement has ruined the dollar.

Jan 21, 2001: one US dollar is worth 1.07 Euros (one Euro buys $0.93)
Apr 21, 2008: one US dollar is worth 0.63 Euros (one Euro buys $1.60)
Thank you Republicans for creating unprecedented harm and destruction to America.

guest says "Committing National Suicide" on 04/22/08
Its becoming abunduntly clear that America is and has been on a path of national suicide.

The supply side policies of Reaganomics (voo Doo Economics)are bearing their bitter fruit and destroying almost everything sound and strong and decent about America.

*Lower taxes and tax shelters for millionaires and billionaires and corporations effectively loot our nation of trillions needed for schools, hospitals, infrasture social security, and national prorities like energy independence. All to indulge the financial insecurities of the wealthiest 2% of Americans at the expense of 98% of the nation.
*Deregulation means corporations don't have to follow safety rules and can pay their CEO's exhorbitant salaries while outsourcing their employees and insourcing illegals.

Its abunduntly clear how many Americans are suffering from job loss, housing foreclosures, lower wages, higher health care and education and fuel costs, and a weaker and weaker dollar.

Yet our politicians: Democrat and Republican either do not listen or do not care or both. They have sold out our country to Communist China for short term gains and reelection funds. They have made war/occupation with Iraq permanent squandering America's financial future and destroying the military while seeding bad will against America from the world community.

Democrats are just as guilty as Republicans. There should be immediate recall elections started. 99% should be booted from office IMMEDIATELY before they can finish off and destroy the last vestiges of goodness in our nation.

Special elections for Independent candidates should start now.Reelecting the same politicians and same parties to power will only perpetuate the status quo.
